After 20 years in the chapter and seven years as President, Soban Njoh Eteki Andrew reflects on the meaning of the SBMC Golden Jubilee, the activities he treasures and the challenges he faced.
By Njoh Eteki Andrew — Awardee of the SBMC Certificate of Appreciation, SBMC Certificate of Gratitude, and SOBA National Exco Certificate of Recognition for Dedicated Services.
Mr. Eteki Njoh Andrew served SBMC as Vice President, and subsequently as Chapter President for 7 years. He shares some personal reflections on the Soba Buea Mother Chapter.
On the importance of the SBMC Golden Jubilee
"I have been an active member of the SOBA Buea Mother Chapter (SBMC) for 20 years. The jubilee is important because SBMC is the first, foundational chapter from which all other chapters emerged. The SBMC has stood the test of time, demonstrating unity, continuity and enduring relevance."
On the main activities I appreciate
"I appreciate the monthly meetings — especially the warmth and camaraderie among members. I commend the participation of our spouses. This strengthens family bonds within the chapter. The end-of-year parties, marked by joy, togetherness and celebration..."
My most memorable moments
"The spirit of genuine teamwork and collective decision-making has consistently produced positive outcomes."
On the activities I dislike
"I dislike the persistent challenge brought about by the failure of some members to pay their dues."
How SBMC has impacted my life
"It was an honour to serve as Vice President and later, President for 7 years. Membership of the SBMC deepened my family bonds, as my wife and I have together been members for 20 years. SBMC positively impacted my marriage. Attending meetings together strengthened our unity, and my wife's support and humility deeply contributed to my success as Chapter President."
Challenges faced during my tenure and how they were overcome
"One of the major challenges was the low financial contribution from members. We also lacked social activities that included families. I introduced the end-of-year party and social-cohesion games, which successfully improved morale and participation. A major personal challenge was the death of my father — a difficult moment after decades of shared SBMC commitment. I remain deeply grateful to the chapter and the President-General for their support and the dignified SOBAN burial."
Three reasons to be a proud member of SBMC
- I am from a lifelong family legacy of SOBA, spanning 3 generations and now continuing with my son.
- The SBMC's unity, camaraderie and spirit of brotherhood.
- The privilege of serving and contributing to the growth and sustainability of the SBMC.
